Urban Sports Bar

We are excited to present Bedrock Pier 7, an exceptional fusion of branding and interior design from the FINCH team

With a vision to depart from conventional sports bars, Bedrock Pier 7 embraces an earthy, modern, and upscale concept that redefines the genre

The Journey

Our journey with Bedrock was fueled by a desire to revolutionize the sports bar experience. Countless benchmarking and research efforts revealed a pervasive pattern of clichés dominating the industry – loud bars, garish neon lights, and an excessive display of sports memorabilia. We were determined to challenge this status quo and create an exquisite, one-of-a-kind destination – a modern sports bar that transcends expectations.

The Name and Concept:

In our quest to conceive an unrivaled concept, the name Bedrock emerged as a metaphorical foundation, symbolizing the very essence upon which a golf club is built. It embodies strength, stability, and the core of a new beginning. We set forth to transform this concept into a tangible reality that would redefine the sports bar landscape.

When the client presented their vision for Bedrock, we knew we were embarking on an ambitious endeavor. The brief called for more than just an interior design concept; it demanded an artistic transformation that would demasculinize the space, attracting a diverse clientele of both men and women while maintaining its identity as a sports bar. Our task was to elevate the design consciousness of the genre, resulting in an ambiance that felt natural, clean, earthy, and high-end – a true testament to relaxed, welcoming vibes and something that appealed to the grassroots hardcore sports fan as well as the every day fair-weather fan. Additionally, the spatial challenge of accommodating distinct zones within the 900 sq mt space required meticulous planning and ingenuity as we wanted to create zones for social drinking or pub vibes, a restaurant space, private rooms for group social games and events, an interactive darts area and a private golf simulator room. All of these elements had to be pushed into this 900 sq mt space.

Sport & Design

A meticulous attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the Bedrock Pier 7 design, from the selection of furniture and lighting to the careful placement of branding elements. The result is a sophisticated and welcoming environment that seamlessly blends the worlds of sports, design, and hospitality.

Bedrock is a clean, modern, and sophisticated urban sports bar. It is far from ordinary.

One of the most formidable hurdles was the venue itself. The site was formerly an unintended retail unit that was converted into a makeshift F&B Site for previous tenants, FUME, which meant it lacked the characteristic balcony or terrace found in most F&B establishments at Pier 7. The low ceiling height posed a significant obstacle, especially when incorporating elements like darts and a full golf simulator, which demanded precise height requirements. Yet, we embraced these limitations as opportunities to showcase our design prowess.

Finding the perfect balance between innovation and familiarity proved to be a delightful challenge. We wanted Bedrock Pier 7 to feel welcoming and familiar to sports enthusiasts, yet we were determined to avoid falling into the overused clichés that plague sports bar design. We wanted the design to appeal to a much wider demographic than the blokey sports fan.

Drawing inspiration from contemporary trends and the serenity of nature, we carefully curated a fresh and urban aesthetic for Bedrock. The interior design features clean lines, sleek surfaces, and a harmonious selection of materials that create an atmosphere of elegance and refinement. This minimalist sensibility exudes sophistication while staying true to the core essence of a sports bar.

The lighting design played an instrumental role in our conceptual narrative. Not only did it add a touch of femininity, but it also softened the rawness of concrete and stone finishes. The strategically placed lighting effects conjure images of sand dunes or bunkers, beautifully mirroring the fluidity of golf elements within the space. The pièce de résistance was the main ceiling feature, an artistic homage to the common swing motion and swing trackers used on tv coverage, elegantly accentuating the entire design.

The incorporation of various floor levels in the interior design was instrumental in overcoming the spatial challenge. Each level facilitated the creation of distinct zones, such as the main bar area, restaurant, private rooms, darts arena, and the golf simulator room – fitting harmoniously within the compact space as in some spaces we had to “dig down” in order to create the room required for the purpose.

Everything within this space, furniture, dart units, waiter stations, reception desks, chairs, tables, banquettes, absolutely everything, even the lighting was customized by the FINCH design team. The attention to detail, and the amount of site visits and inspections required were incredibly taxing, but somehow, we managed to do it and the results for Bedrock Pier 7 are awesome!
