Specialty Coffee Shop Interior Design

Throughout the years we’ve delivered a number of high and mid-range projects across the region.

One of my favorite places to hang out is a specialty coffee cafe. I love the vibe, the gorgeous variations of coffee, and more often than not the friendly people who work there. The best part about these places is that they’re not only great for a cup of coffee, they’re also wonderful places to sit and relax while you enjoy your drink or meal with friends or co-workers or by yourself. In fact, there are even some cafes that have special quiet zones where you can just relax without being disturbed by other patrons who might be talking loudly on their phones! That said, here are some tips for creating an interior design scheme for your own specialty coffee cafe:

The interior design process:

  • Understanding your client’s needs and goals
  • Understanding their budget
  • Understanding their timeline
  • And most importantly… understanding their customer or target customer

When it comes to specialty coffee shop interior design, these four things are the most important. They will help you create a space that meets your client’s needs and supports their business goals as well as appeals to their customer.

Lighting In Interior Design

One of the most important elements to consider when designing a specialty coffee shop is the lighting. Lighting can make a room feel more open and spacious, or it can make it feel intimate and cozy. When choosing a lighting design, think about how you want customers to feel in the space and think about a design that can move with the day and the night.

For example:

  • Mood lighting such as dimmers or low lux levels can create an inviting and intimate atmosphere.
  • Whereas the opposite is achieved with brighter lights and more architectural light fittings.
  • If you want an awesome specialty coffee shop interior design, then do not skip on the lighting.

Furniture in your Interior Design

The furniture in your café needs to be comfortable and inviting. Whilst also being highly practical. I mean, if it can’t comfortably fit a laptop and a coffee with a note book, 86 it. In addition, mix the seating up, high level, low level, comfy and lounge-y with efficient and more work based. Don’t neglect larger groups too, allow for modular or communal tables if you have the space.

Quite Zones / Work From Cafe

Because of your café’s unique specialty, many of your customers are looking for a quiet atmosphere. You can provide this by creating “quiet zones” within the interior design of your café. This will make it clear to everyone what areas they can go if they want to enjoy their coffee in peace and quiet. We’re finding this to more and more popular. Especially post pandemic, as more people are working remotely or operating on Zoom calls.

Specially Coffee Shop Interior Design Trends

Here’s a contentious opinion, do not design for trends or based on trends. Trends pass very quickly. That’s why there’s thousands of industrial or rustic cafes out there sitting empty. Employ a specialty coffee cafe interior design specialist and be a pioneer. Lead from the front and create something for your audience, not just something that looks great on Pinterest. Trends fade, customer loyalty shouldn’t, as long as you’re nailing it.
